Japan Quests ("the App") is a mobile application developed by Garcia&Friends ("we", "us", "our"). The App turns your trip around Japan into a collectible adventure: a catalog of places organized into themed packs, with an offline map, GPS check-in, and a gamified travel passport. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.
1. Information We Collect
Location Data: When you use the "Check-in" feature or the "Nearby" feature, the App requests access to your device's location to confirm you are near a place and to find quests around you. Location is used only while the App is open (foreground) — never in the background. Your location is processed locally on your device. We do not store, transmit, or share your location data with any server.
Photos & Camera: The App lets you attach your own photos to the places you've visited and keep a personal visit journal. These photos are copied into the App's private storage on your device and are never uploaded to our servers or shared with anyone. The camera and photo-library permissions are used only when you choose to add a photo.
Visits, Favorites & Preferences: Your check-ins, saved places (wishlist), collected stamps, favorites, collection progress, language choice, and other preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not collect or transmit this data.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any personal identification.
- We do not require account creation or login.
- We do not collect or store your location, photos, or notes on our servers.
- We do not show ads and we do not use advertising trackers.
- We do not sell any user data to third parties.
3. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- RevenueCat — In-app purchase management. When you buy or restore the premium unlock, RevenueCat assigns a random, anonymous app-user ID (not linked to your name or account) and processes the purchase receipt to keep your unlock working across reinstalls and devices. It does not receive your location, photos, or notes. Privacy Policy
- Cloudflare R2 — Image hosting. The place photos and stamps shown in the App are delivered from a content-delivery network; loading an image sends a standard web request (including your IP address) to fetch it. Privacy Policy

The map is rendered from map data bundled inside the App and works fully offline — it does not send your location or any data to a map provider.
4. Data Storage & Security
All user data (check-ins, saved places, collected stamps, favorites, journal photos and notes, preferences) is stored locally on your device. We do not operate servers that store personal user data. The place catalog and the map are bundled within the App, so the core experience works offline; an internet connection is only used to load place photos and stamps.
5. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
6. In-App Purchases
The App offers an optional one-time purchase (the "Japan Quests Pro" lifetime unlock) that enables additional features. Purchases are processed by the Google Play Store and managed through RevenueCat (see section 3). We do not collect or store any payment information.
7. Data Retention
Since we do not collect personal data on our servers, there is no personal data to retain or delete. Local data on your device — including your journal photos and notes — can be cleared by deleting it within the App or by uninstalling the App.
8. Your Rights
You can:
- Deny location permission — the App works without it (the "Check-in" and "Nearby" features will be unavailable).
- Deny camera and photo permissions — the App works without them (you simply won't be able to attach photos to your visits).
- Delete your journal photos and notes at any time within the App.
- Delete all local data by uninstalling the App.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
